Organic Search Performance & Growth Plan, prepared 14 September 2026

Organic Growth: 6 Months vs Prior 6 Months

GA4 engagement and conversion data, cross-referenced with Search Console and rank tracking, across two equal periods.

1 Mar – 31 Aug 2026 vs 1 Sep 2025 – 28 Feb 2026
Data note: the four stats above and every Search Console figure below are from live GSC/GA4 exports for the correct period (1 Mar – 31 Aug 2026 vs 29 Aug 2025 – 28 Feb 2026). Rank tracking and authority (further down) are from our own keyword tracking. Brand Mentions still await a fresh export — flagged where it appears.
Heads up: we'll be moving off GSC as the primary data source in favour of GA4 going forward — not all organic traffic is being captured by GSC anymore, and GA4 is proving more reliable for this site. Treat the GSC figures in this report as directional rather than complete.

Engaged sessions

↑ 2.57% vs 24,969 · engagement rate 58.78% (vs 59.07%)
Headline: organic is converting significantly better than it was 6 months ago: key events are up 73.9% and the session key event rate is up 44.78%, on top of sessions themselves growing 3.08%. Search Console clicks are down slightly and impressions up slightly site-wide (below), but average position improved — the conversion gain is real and additive to modest session growth, not a trade-off against visibility.

Search Console Visibility: Clicks & Impressions

↑ from 8.7
Read: site-wide visibility is essentially flat — clicks down 2%, impressions up 3%, average position improved from 8.7 to 7.9. This is a much milder picture than our own keyword tracking further down suggests; GSC is Google's own data for this property, though see the note above on GSC coverage gaps. The real story is at page level: some pages are down sharply while others are up (below), netting out close to flat.

Read: four of the five biggest click losers are named-expert queries (coie wilson, dr yasir khan, dr robert lefkovits, dr jan tomlinson) — the same names driving the page-level losses below. The branded "lex medicus" query is also down slightly, worth keeping an eye on but not yet a trend.

Where the opportunity sits

Search Console shows the same set of pages carrying most of the click/impression movement, a handful of large gainers (e.g. /ulnar-nerve-entrapment/, /medico-legal-services/independent-medical-examination/) alongside a set of high-potential pages that have softened. Re-optimising the latter is the clearest lever for the next 6 months.

Priority pages for re-optimisation

1 Mar – 31 Aug 2026 vs prior 6 months (live GSC export). Positions have slipped gradually on these and impressions have followed, content/competitive softening, not a technical fault, which makes them straightforward to win back with a refresh.

Read: "everything-you-need-to-know-about-medico-legal-assessment" is the single biggest opportunity in the set, largest impression base of the group, moderate position slip, no technical issue found. These 6 pages are exactly the ones we're rotating through the re-optimisation plan below, 1 per month.

Read: the pattern is clear once you sort by page: named-expert profile pages dominate both the gains list and the losses list. This isn't a site-wide technical problem — it's individual profiles moving, which is exactly what the Medical Experts Hub numbers below confirm.

Medical Experts Hub: Traffic & Rankings Trend

Read: the hub is down modestly overall (-4.4% clicks, -7.4% impressions), but it's genuinely mixed — almost as many profiles gained as lost, not a mass takedown. Roster attrition (below) explains part of the decline, but isn't the whole story.

Named experts driving the losses

The biggest individual decliners, cross-referenced against the live site.

/medical-experts/dr-robert-lefkovits/ 97 → 218 −56% 3,009 → 2,949 +2% Still live
Read: the "profiles taken offline" theory checks out for three of the four — ms-coie-wilson now redirects into the experts directory hub, and dr-yasir-khan and ms-amanda-brown no longer resolve as standalone pages at all, consistent with those experts leaving the panel. Dr Robert Lefkovits is the exception: still live, impressions essentially flat, so that one's a ranking/CTR issue on the page itself, not removal. Action: 301 the two confirmed-gone profiles (and any others in the same pattern) to their specialty page or a general "meet our experts" page so the link equity isn't wasted; leave Lefkovits for a content/CTR review instead.

Opportunity: consolidating homepage & /medico-legal-services/

Rank tracking shows the homepage and /medico-legal-services/ are both targeting the same query cluster, and the homepage is already winning it on the strength of existing link-building equity.

KeywordVolumeHomepage position/medico-legal-services/ position
medico legal services50/mon/a80
medico-legal services50/mon/a85

The plan

Rather than fight our own link equity, we consolidate intent onto the homepage, it's already the stronger asset for this cluster post-migration. We'll set /medico-legal-services/ to no-index in an upcoming month, so it stops competing with the homepage in the SERP, and repoint any internal anchors currently pointing at it. One clean move that removes the competition entirely rather than a drawn-out fix.

How it came about

Traced to the last site migration, the homepage and services page templates picked up overlapping on-page targeting that didn't exist pre-migration. It isn't present on the Cluster A pages, which is why those get a content refresh instead of a no-index.

Worth noting

/bankart-and-hill-sachs-lesions-of-the-shoulder-joint/ clicks down slightly (1,106 vs 1,208, −8%) with impressions essentially flat (344,285 vs 344,251), a CTR/SERP-feature effect rather than a ranking issue, so no action needed here.

Read: AI Assistant sessions are still small (110 over 6 months) but engage well — 64.55% engagement rate and over a minute average time, both above site averages. The "vs 0 prior period" isn't necessarily 0-to-110 growth: GA4's AI Assistant channel grouping is new, so the prior period likely wasn't classified this way rather than genuinely having no AI referrals. Worth tracking as its own line from here, but don't read the comparison as a growth rate.

Our Tracking & Authority — Live, 1 Mar – 31 Aug 2026

Read: authority is still trending the right way (DR up, link count grew steadily through the campaign), but rankings and estimated traffic have fallen sharply since April 2026 — over half of the site's top-5 keyword rankings were lost between April and September, and live backlinks have dropped ~17% off their July peak. GSC (above) shows a much milder site-wide picture — see the note at the top of this report on GSC's coverage gaps, which may partly explain the gap between the two.
Cross-check (Ahrefs): a second tool tells a similar cautionary story — DR 30 (+4 YoY) and referring domains 568 (+304 YoY) both up, but organic keywords down to 504 (−2.4k YoY), top-3 rankings down to 260 (−70), and estimated organic traffic down to 1.7k (−2.1k). Different methodology to our own tracking and GSC, but directionally the same: authority climbing, visibility and estimated traffic softening.

Read: 6 blog posts and 6 pieces of on-page/technical work landed on schedule across the period — nothing here explains the ranking/traffic dip in our own tracking data above.
